- A morning invitation. Most Marathi weddings are held in the morning, with the reception in the evening of the same day.
Who invites whom
Issued by both families. Marathi invitations commonly open with a Ganesh invocation and the phrase 'Shubh Vivah'.
Timing & dates
Four to six weeks is usual. Marathi weddings are typically a single main day rather than a week of events, so the invitation is simpler than in many other traditions.
2026–27 date guidance
Marathi weddings follow muhurats from the panchang, and are avoided during Chaturmas. Ashadh and Pitru Paksha are also avoided. Confirm the muhurat with your family's guruji.

The engagement, marked by an exchange of sugar and gifts between the families.

Sacred verses sung by the priest and family; at their conclusion the Antarpat is lowered and the couple garland each other.
