Madhubani (Mithila) folk painting
Mithila Vivah is crafted in the sacred folk art tradition of Madhubani from Mithila in northern Bihar. For generations, women of Mithila have hand-painted the walls of their homes for weddings, particularly the kohbar ghar where the newlyweds receive blessings. The design honors the divine wedding of Sita and Ram, celebrating the rich lyrical tradition of Maithili wedding songs.
The artwork incorporates the sacred motifs traditional to kohbar murals: blossoming lotuses signifying purity, resilient bamboo representing prosperity and family continuity, and auspicious fish symbolizing fertility and fortune. Every motif is rendered in the distinctive fine double-line outlines and rich mineral-inspired hues of the bharni style.
It suits families from Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Mithila, as well as art connoisseurs who treasure authentic indigenous Indian folk art. The spacious inner layout easily holds traditional wedding shlokas, songs, and extended family names.
Every ceremony—tilak, haldi or ubtan, matkor, vivah, and reception—receives its own dedicated card with venue directions and timings.
